Ethanol is an organic chemical compound, which in turn is the major component of what is known as “Alcohol”. Ethanol is therefore an alcohol, or rather, it is the most representative compound of the alcohols and the one with the greatest commercial and industrial use and opportunities.

When we talk about obtaining ethanol, this is achieved through physical processes of separation of alcoholic mixtures until high purity alcoholic concentrations are obtained. These processes, known as alcoholic distillation, either simple or fractional distillation, have a long history in industrial history. Since obtaining very pure ethanol with residual water concentrations cannot be achieved exclusively through fractional distillation, it is necessary to resort to other methods and processes of separation or physical absorption through molecular sieves.

Distillation processes, simple or fractional, as well as physical adsorption with molecular sieves have been the heart of Tomsa Destil’s technological development for years.
ABOUT THE PROCESS

Ethanol

In order to obtain alcoholic products and, of course, ethanol as the main product, a series of industrial processes of different nature must be followed. Tomsa Destil has extensive experience in all of them and we could summarize them as all those processes that revolve around obtaining alcohol, whether processes of generation or treatment of waste from distillation.

Must preparation

Process equipment for the preparation of must from different raw materials such as sugar cane, agave, tapioca, grapes, dates, potatoes, corn, wheat, among others.

Alcoholic fermentation

Equipment for alcoholic fermentation from yeasts of the must generated in previous stages. 

Simple or fractional distillation

Processes for distillation in stills or atmospheric/vacuum type columns 

Alcohol storage

Storage of products obtained for future uses 

Evaporation of stillage and water recovery

Use of the by-products as part of the energy integration of the plant.

Evaporation of stillage

Not at all, in fact, ethanol is generated through the alcoholic fermentation of any agricultural product containing Sugar or starch.
Of course, Tomsa Destil has manufactured Ethanol plants with capacities from 15K litres/day to 600K litres/day, all success cases.
Indeed, plants require several technological processes as well as a large number of related ancillary services. Tomsa Destil can supply only the heart of the process or execute the whole integration of the complete EPC project.
Certainly yes, whether a lower or higher concentration is desired, the plant design is tailored to the required specification. The investment being more modest if higher concentrations are not required or more heavy investment if higher concentrations are desired.
Certainly yes, many customers are owners of factories and industrial facilities where they already have auxiliary services that can be partly used by the new Ethanol plant and be coupled as a sub-facility within the existing facilities, sharing resources, services, and expenses with the existing processes.
