Research & Development

We are engineers and researchers. That is why at Tomsa Destil we are continuously developing our processes to be used in new fields of application and to improve the efficiency of them. In the biological area we count with experienced technicians in the selection of microorganism, isolation and improvement of productive species, freeze dried of yeasts, investigation of fermentation and hydrolysis, etc.

Regarding the field of isolation, we exceed in the distillation and dehydration of any mixture of alcohols and sub products, the determination of eutectic points of available mixtures of products, the processes of isolation by semi permeable membranes, the evaporation and crystallization of solutions of dissolved or floating solid products.

In the field of waste water treatment we have worked in several processes of chemical oxidation of polluting substances, aerobic and anaerobic bio digesters, calculation of BOD, QOD, COV, etc. We count with a high level of successes regarding the industrial field of several prototype processes developed in our laboratory.

Over 3,500 sqft of laboratories with experienced doctors in various fields. Tomsa Destil focus its research in microbiology, fermentation and 2nd generation alcohol. We also provide servides for liquids and gas chromatography, alcohometry and any other chemical analysis.

Our research has granted us several patents in new yeasts and enzymes.

Among our R&D infrastructure we possess a 1,000 litres fermentation unit for scaling up from lab size. This unit is designed in skid for transportation to perform tests at our clients site.

We aslo count with a 1,000 litres/day complete pilot plant, including fermentation, distillation and evaporation for testing our results in semi-industrial size plant.

Rockefeler Institute (New York, EE.UU)

Subsidy of Rockefeler Foundation for investigation of “Application of polyphenolic antifouling semi permeable membranes (micro filtration and osmosis), to depuration of vinasses and molasses”. Duration of the work: 2 years

Industrial Fermentations Institute, Superior Centre of Scientific Investigations (IFI-C.E.S.I.C), Madrid – Spain

“Study regarding the progress of strain of molasses with high level of solids”, funded by the Autonomous Community of Madrid, through the 2003 call of helps for those companies of this Community which develop projects of investigation and technological development (Order 750/2003, BOCM 2003-02-17). Duration of the project: 1 year.

Madrid´s Institute of Development, Community of Madrid–Madrid–Spain

Obtaining of bio-fuels from sludge and fats from urban treatment plants”. Funded by the Autonomous Community of Madrid. Duration of the project (1st phase): 9 months; 2nd Phase pending of approval.

Decoinsa, S.A. (Cuenca-Spain)

Investigation and development of a process of integral treatment for the depuration of purines in pig farms, recovering the ammoniac compounds (producing ammonic crystalline sulphate as inorganic fertilizer, depurated water for animal consumption and biomass as bio-fuel or organic fertilizer) and ZERO emission of wastes. Duration of the project: 1.5 years. This project was industrially market, obtaining the relevant Industrial Patent .

Navidul, S.A. (Teruel–Spain)

“Investigation and Development of a process for the treatment of wasted waters originating from the washing of a factory of “Serrano Hams” by means of a physical – chemical process of lamellar filtration, coagulation by Termo-Jet, and solid concentration by evaporation. This project was implemented in an industrial installations, currently operating.

Laboratorios Lilly S.A. (Alcobendas, España)

“Investigation and Development of a process for the treatment of wasted waters from reactors for production of chemical compounds. The process basically consists on the chemical oxidation followed by a concentration of solids by evaporation of laminar flow. This process is currently developed industrially.

Philip Simon (Malasia)

With the collaboration of University Carlos III (Madrid- Spain): “Investigation of the process of concentration of natural juice of HA Latex (High Ammonia), by inverse osmosis and ultra hot filtration, together with not ionic tense active compounds”. Duration of the project: 6 months.

Oleicola El Tejar (Córdoba, Spain)

Investigation of a new process of treatment in the evaporated phase of Alpechines, proceeding from the extraction of olive oil, by distillation of high vacuum. Duration of the project 4 months.

Ecolube S.A. (Getafe, Spain)

Process of treatment of waste water obtained from the process of recycled used mineral oils. Combine process of separation of solids in suspension, distillation in vacuum of organic volatile compounds and energetic oxidation by using and equipment using ozone. Duration of the study: 5 months.

Polifenoles Naturales S.A. (Tenerife, Spain)

Investigation and development of a process of extraction of polyphenols by using marine algae and vegetable products. Process of extraction by specific dissolvent and separation and concentration by distillation in vacuum. Duration of the project: 9 months. Project developed industrially, currently in operation.

Transformación de Aditivos S.A. (Santomera, Spain)

I+D process of restoration of Isopropanol proceeding from a plant of extraction of pectin from solid citric wastes. Duration: 6 months. Process implemented industrially currently operating.

Abengoa Bioenergy S.A. (Bavilafuenta, Spain)

I+D process of distillation of leavened grape-juice from cellulosic products as straw of cereals. Duration: 8 months. Process currently operating.

Bioetamex S.A. de C.V. (Mexico)

Investigation of fermentation and selection of more efficient yeast strains, proceeding from the store of yeast of Tomsa, used for different sort of sorghum, whole grain without shell. Duration of investigation: 4.5 weeks.

First Southern Ethanol Energy Corporation (Philippines)

Investigation of performance of extraction of juice of sweet sorghum, characteristics of fermentation and selection yeast strain of high performance. Distinction of vinasses from sweet sorghum. Duration of investigation: 6 weeks.
